Eyelid and Eye Rejuvenation (Blepharoplasty)

The First Step!
Choose a Surgeon You Can Trust

Choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon ensures safe and satisfactory results. Look for a surgeon certified by the Mexican Council of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and a full member of the Mexican Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. These credentials guarantee the surgeon's expertise and knowledge of the latest surgical techniques.

Who Are Candidates for Blepharoplasty?

Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are physically and psychologically healthy men and women with realistic expectations about their age and the outcome of the procedure.

This surgery is typically performed after age 35, though earlier intervention may be considered if there is a family history of droopy eyelids. Blepharoplasty can enhance your appearance and boost your self-esteem.

What Should You Know About Blepharoplasty?

As we age, the skin of the eyelids wrinkles, muscles weaken, and fat accumulates around the eyes, causing "bags" to form in the upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty is a procedure designed to remove fat, often along with excess skin and muscle, from the upper and lower eyelids.

This surgery can correct droopy upper eyelids and puffy lower eyelid bags. However, it will not address crow’s feet, dark circles under the eyes, or sagging eyebrows.

Planning Your Surgery
  • I will review your medical history, including any conditions, allergies, or medications you take.
  • I may recommend a pre-operative ophthalmologic evaluation to assess tear production.
  • Together, we will decide whether to address both the upper and lower eyelids or just one.
  • I will explain the surgical techniques, anesthesia options, potential risks, and costs involved.
How Is the Procedure Performed?

The surgery typically lasts about one hour, depending on the complexity of the case. If both upper and lower eyelids are being treated, I will begin with the upper eyelids. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation, which numbs the eye area while keeping you comfortable.

  1. Marking Incision Sites: I will mark incision lines along the natural folds of the upper and lower eyelids. Incisions may extend into the crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes.
  2. Removing Excess Tissue: Through these incisions, I will remove excess fat, skin, and, if necessary, muscle.
  3. Closing the Incisions: The incisions are closed with fine internal sutures, leaving scars that are nearly invisible.
Recovery

After the procedure:

  • Your eyes will be lubricated, and special dressings will be applied.
  • You should keep your head elevated and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling.
  • I will prescribe pain medication to manage any discomfort.
  • I will show you how to clean your eyes, which may feel sticky and dry for about a week. Stitches are typically removed after one week, at which point you’ll begin to feel and look much better.

Most patients return to regular activities within a week. Depending on your recovery and my guidance, you can use makeup to conceal any bruising.

You may be sensitive to sunlight, wind, and other environmental factors for several weeks. It’s important to wear sunglasses and apply sunscreen when outdoors.

To Support Your Recovery
  • Minimize activities for 3–5 days following surgery.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for three weeks.
  • Refrain from alcohol consumption, as it can lead to fluid retention.
Your New Look

Recovery is gradual. Scars may appear pink for up to six months but will eventually fade into fine, nearly invisible white lines.

Your eyelids will feel smoother and firmer, giving you a brighter, more refreshed appearance. Results can last for many years and, in some cases, may even be permanent.
