Gluteal Augmentation
The First Step: Choosing a Surgeon You Can Trust
Selecting a plastic surgeon certified by the Mexican Board of Plastic, Aesthetic, and
Reconstructive Surgery and a full member of the Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic,
and Reconstructive Surgery is crucial. These credentials ensure your surgeon is qualified
and up-to-date, allowing you to proceed with confidence.
What You Need to Know
Gluteal augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the size and shape of the
buttocks by either injecting fat from your own body (harvested via liposuction) or inserting
an implant into each buttock.
Who Is a Candidate?
The ideal candidates for gluteal augmentation:
- Are healthy and emotionally stable.
- Understand the achievable results of the procedure.
- Seek to enhance their body contour and appearance.
Before deciding on surgery:
- Carefully consider your expectations.
- Discuss your goals openly with your surgeon.
Planning Your Procedure
During your initial consultation:
- Evaluation: The size, shape, skin firmness of your buttocks, and your
overall health will be assessed.
- Expectations: Share your expectations and concerns honestly.
- Options: Available alternatives, along with the risks and limitations
of each, will be explained.
- Details: Information about the type of anesthesia and the costs
involved will also be provided.
The Procedure
- Fat Injection (Lipoinjection):
- Requires prior liposuction to harvest fat.
- The collected fat is specially prepared and injected into the buttocks via a 1
cm incision in the upper intergluteal region.
- Implant Placement:
- The insertion and positioning of the implant depend on your anatomy.
- An incision is made in the intergluteal fold to create a pocket:
- Behind the fascia of the gluteus maximus.
- Or intramuscularly.
- The implant is centered over the buttock.
- General anesthesia is used, keeping the patient asleep during the procedure.
- The surgery typically lasts 1–2 hours.
- The wound is closed with buried sutures and covered with dressings for 2–3 days
to aid proper healing.
Recovery
- Mild fatigue is expected for a few days post-surgery.
- Normal activities can typically resume within 1–2 days.
- Most discomfort is managed with medication.
- Dressings are removed within 2–3 days, and you will be advised on the type of
compression garment to wear.
- It may take several weeks for the buttocks to regain their completely normal appearance.
Risks
As with any surgery, gluteal augmentation has associated risks, including:
- Bleeding: Postoperative bleeding can result in fluid accumulation.
- Hematoma: There is a small risk of blood collection under the skin,
which may require drainage if it occurs.
Your New Look
Patients undergoing this procedure often experience improved appearance and self-esteem as
they feel more confident with their enhanced figure.
The decision to undergo gluteal augmentation is highly personal. If the results align with
your goals and expectations, the surgery is considered a success.
