Breast Lift

Mastopexy

The First Step: Choosing a Surgeon You Can Trust

Selecting a board-certified plastic surgeon ensures safe and satisfying results. Look for a surgeon certified by the Mexican Council of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and a full member of the Mexican Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. These credentials demonstrate the surgeon’s expertise and commitment to the latest surgical advancements.

About Breast Lift Surgery

Over time, the female breast changes, losing its youthful shape and firmness. These changes can result from pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, aging, gravity, and heredity. Also called mastopexy, a breast lift raises and reshapes the breast by removing excess skin and reshaping the underlying breast tissue for improved contour and firmness.

In some cases, the areola may enlarge over time, and mastopexy can address this issue as well. A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a more youthful breast profile. It does not significantly change the size of your breasts—if you desire smaller breasts, a breast reduction may be recommended, or for larger breasts, augmentation might be advised.

Is This Procedure Right for Me?

A breast lift is a highly individualized procedure that should be done for yourself and not to meet someone else’s expectations. You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Are physically healthy.
  • Do not smoke or smoke very little.
  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Feel your breasts look deflated or have lost shape and volume.
  • Notice sagging or pendulous breasts.
  • See your areolas pointing downward.
  • Have stretched skin and enlarged areolas.
  • Have one breast that is a different shape from the other.
Planning Your Surgery

During your initial consultation:

  • I will evaluate your health and discuss your motivations for wanting a breast lift.
  • I will ask about any medications you are taking and inquire about family history of breast cancer.
  • I will examine your breasts for size, shape, and skin quality.
  • After the examination, I will carefully listen to your concerns and expectations.
  • I will explain possible techniques to address your needs and discuss the risks and costs involved.
  • Your case will be documented for reference before, during, and after surgery.
How Is the Procedure Performed?
  • Anesthesia: The procedure may involve intravenous sedation with local anesthesia or general anesthesia. I will recommend the best option based on your specific needs.
  • Incision Patterns:
    • Around the areola.
    • Around the areola with a vertical incision down to the inframammary fold (lollipop incision).
    • Around the areola with a vertical and horizontal incision along the breast crease (anchor incision).
  • Tissue Reshaping: I will lift and reshape the breast tissue, improving contour and firmness. The areola will be repositioned to a more youthful height and reduced in size if necessary.
  • Closure: The incisions will be closed, and scars will fade over time.

While the results will be immediately visible, the breasts will appear swollen and bruised for about 4 weeks. The final shape will be apparent around the 8th week.

Important Information
  • Bresat lift surgery may interfere with mammograms.
  • Wearing piercings can increase the risk of infection.
  • Breastfeeding is not affected by this procedure.

Most patients can go home the same day, although some may require an overnight stay. Mild discomfort can be managed with prescribed medication. Feel free to ask any questions; open communication is key to a successful surgery.

Recovery
  • You will need to wear a special bra for at least three weeks, day and night, and then only at night to reduce swelling and support faster healing.
  • Sutures will be removed between 7 and 14 days post-surgery.
  • Temporary reduced sensitivity in the breasts and nipples is normal and typically resolves within 8 weeks.
Your Results

The final shape of your breasts will become evident around 6 weeks after surgery. Initially, scars will appear pink and firm but will fade and become nearly invisible within 6 months.

The results of a breast lift are permanent, provided you maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle. You will be thrilled with your rejuvenated and youthful appearance!
