Facial Reconstruction
The First Step: Choosing a Surgeon You Can Trust
Selecting a plastic surgeon certified by the Mexican Board of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive
Surgery and a full member of the Mexican Association of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgery
ensures that your surgeon is qualified and up-to-date, giving you confidence in your choice.
What Is Facial Reconstruction?
Facial reconstruction addresses deformities of the skull and face caused by congenital malformations,
trauma, or their consequences. This includes treating acute facial fractures and correcting deformities
resulting from older fractures. Conditions treated under facial reconstruction include:
- Cleft Lip and Palate (Cleft Lip):
- Congenital deformities of the mouth and lip.
- Treatment includes surgery and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to address potential
complications.
- Craniosynostosis:
- A condition where cranial sutures close prematurely, affecting normal skull and brain growth.
- Surgery is typically recommended to relieve pressure in the skull and correct cranial and facial
bone deformities.
- Hemifacial Microsomia:
- A condition where tissue on one side of the face does not fully develop, often impacting the ear,
mouth, and jaw.
- Treatment includes:
- Total ear reconstruction using the patient’s cartilage to create and position a new ear.
- Mandibular distraction to address facial asymmetry.
- Fat grafting to minimize differences between the two sides of the face.
- Facial Fractures: Secondary to trauma and accidents.
- Facial Wounds: Correction of scars or any visible marks from accidents or prior
surgeries.
- Ptosis (Drooping Upper Eyelid): Surgical correction to restore function and
appearance.
- Facial Paralysis Sequelae: Treatment to address functional and aesthetic
consequences.
- Absence or Malformation of Ears: Total ear reconstruction and corrective procedures.
- Other Conditions: A range of additional facial deformities and irregularities.
