Liposuction

Body Contouring Surgery

The First Step!
Choose a Surgeon You Can Trust

Selecting a board-certified plastic surgeon ensures safe and effective results. Look for a surgeon certified by the Mexican Council of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and a full member of the Mexican Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. These credentials demonstrate the surgeon’s expertise and commitment to the latest advancements in surgical techniques.

What Should You Know About Liposuction?

Liposuction is a technique used to remove unwanted fat that has accumulated in specific areas of the body, such as the chin, neck, cheeks, upper arms, abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles. It is not a weight-loss method but rather a way to eliminate fat that does not respond to diet and exercise. Several methods can be used, including traditional liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction, and laser-assisted liposuction. During your first consultation, I will explain the pros and cons of each technique, and together we will decide which is best for your case. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Liposuction can also be used to target localized fat in men, such as the chin, neck, and waist. Additionally, it is a common solution for reducing enlarged male breasts (gynecomastia).

Who Is a Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction can enhance your physical appearance and self-confidence. Before deciding on this surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with me. The best candidates are individuals who are at or slightly above their ideal weight but have fat deposits in specific areas that do not respond to diet and exercise.

You should: ● Be physically healthy and mentally stable. ● Have realistic expectations. ● Have firm, elastic skin. (Loose skin may not conform to your new body contour and may require an additional procedure to remove excess skin.)

Planning Your Procedure

During your first visit: ● I will evaluate your health and ask about your expectations. ● I will explain the possible solutions based on your body type and unique characteristics. ● I will assess the location of fat deposits and carefully evaluate the condition of your skin. Be honest about your expectations, and I will be equally transparent about the details of your liposuction, including risks and limitations. Please let me know if you have experienced significant weight gain or loss, take any medications, or smoke.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

If the liposuction is minor, it can be performed using local anesthesia with sedation to minimize discomfort. Epidural anesthesia may also be an option. For larger areas or multiple areas, general anesthesia will likely be used, allowing you to sleep through the procedure. The surgery may take between 30 minutes and 3 hours, depending on the amount of fat being removed. The steps include:

  1. Small incisions (approximately 5 mm long) are made. Through these, a thin tube (cannula) connected to a suction device is inserted to remove the excess fat and shape the body.
  2. The incisions are closed with sutures.

In very limited liposuction cases, local anesthesia may be used. You may feel vibrations and friction during the procedure or a mild pinching sensation as the cannula moves near the muscle. If significant fluid and blood are lost along with fat during the procedure, fluids may be replaced intravenously. In some cases, auto-transfusion or blood transfusion may be necessary.

Recovery
  • You will need to wear a special compression garment continuously for 3–4 weeks.
  • The treated areas will initially be swollen and bruised, and you may experience a warm sensation.
  • Swelling may initially make the area appear worse than before. This is normal.
  • Some pain, stiffness, and temporary numbness are to be expected, but these symptoms will be managed with prescribed medication.

It is recommended to begin walking as soon as possible to prevent blood clots, though excessive exercise should be avoided for 2–4 weeks. Sutures will be removed within 5–10 days, and most patients return to work in about 7 days. The majority of swelling and discoloration will resolve within a month, though minor swelling may persist for up to six months.

Your New Look

Liposuction is a highly effective technique for creating a new body contour with minimal scarring. The results are permanent as long as you maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise routine. If you gain weight, it will likely distribute evenly rather than accumulate in the treated areas.
Most patients are delighted with their results, feeling more comfortable in their clothes and more confident in their appearance. You will love your new figure!
